What does forgiven means

It took me ages to find out what does being forgiven mean
it is not as cut and dried as you think, only
you would know if you tired, hearts breaking , tears
pouring like the rain, no one knows about the pain you felt,
mistakes happen, that I don’t deny, life is short
and mistakes happen but you have nothing to show
for it, it took me ages to understand how to forgive
someone so dear to me, It took a lot of deep soul
searching to understand the meaning to forgive,
is to just let go and stopping the pain from destroying me
from inside,I don’t have any words say apart from
